ARTA Shipping Standards

ARTA's standard terms of service were sourced from the fine art shipping and handling companies we partner with every day. We believe our partners to be our greatest resource and base our Standards on the caveats and terms we found to be common ground within the industry.

Top five terms that apply to all shipments carried out by our network:

US Shuttles Services
  • Climate control, air ride, dual driver
  • All objects are handled by trained art technicians
  • Scheduling at the discretion of the carrier
  • Additional fees may apply for any ride flat, hinged or specific orientation during transit
  • Average box truck shuttles are 35-40' and tractor trailers are 50-55'
  • Soft packing is primarily sufficient for transit
  • Exclusions apply for fragile or oversize items
  • Any item packed at release is considered PBO, contents unknown, and will not be inspected
  • Additional packing must be requested in advance
  • Pre-fabricated crates at collection must be requested in advance
  • If handlers determine additional packing is required for safe transport, additional fees may apply
  • Any items over 97"H or 150lbs are considered oversize, not manageable by two techs, and may require additional handlers
  • Simple installation assumes easy access, no stairs, eye level, no ladders, on drywall or sheetrock
  • Assumes hanging mechanisms are provided with the artwork
  • A 2 hour window or ETA will provided 24 hours in advance or arrival
  • Building COIs must be requested in advance, additional fees may apply
Exclusive Use
  • Transport will be direct from collection location to delivery location
  • Arrival times are booked based on mutual availability of carrier and client
  • Courier seats available upon request
Euro Shuttle Services
  • Shuttles are untimed and based on accrued volume
  • Some vehicles provide non-climate service
  • Non-transit services must be booked in advance
Local Trucking & Handling
  • Local fine art services bill on actualized transit time and time on site
  • Objects not delivered or returned (crates) may accrue additional handling, storage and disposal
  • Same day service must be requested advance
  • Vehicles can be climate, reefer or non-climate
  • All handlers are all trained art technicians
  • Arrival windows are 2 hours to account for traffic, delays at other bookings or unforeseen circumstances
  • Building COIs must be requested in advance, additional fees may apply
  • All quotes assume items are ground floor delivery with elevator and doorway access
  • Unless otherwise indicated there is enough room at location for handling
  • Carrying items up stairs is an additional fee
  • Rigging deposits are non-refundable, even in cases of weather cancellation or delay
Furniture & Decorative Arts
  • Vehicles are non-climate, air ride, dual technician
  • Schedules are based on local availability, calls will be made 24hrs in advance
  • Deliveries can be curbside, inside or white glove - must be confirmed before booking
Air Freight
  • Must Fly must be booked in advance
  • Airlines reserve the right to bump or delay standard freight at their own discretion
  • All crates must meet international shipping standards (ie. IPPC "Bug" Stamped)
  • Client must provide value, supporting documents and relevant customs information accordingly
  • Duties and taxes are the responsibility of the consignee
  • Any port storage fees are not included in quoted rate and will be presented to billing party
  • Direct flights are not guaranteed
  • All airfreight shipments may includes RFS (Road Feeder Service)
  • Crates that exceed 63"/ 160 cm are required to fly via a freighter aircraft
  • For all U.S. Imports an Importer of Record is required to complete a POA (Power of Attorney) during the import Customs clearance formalities.
Sea Freight
  • LCL shipments are subject to crating
  • Containers ship based on accrued volume and take 6-8 weeks on average
  • Specialty clearance requirements may not be eligible for groupage
  • Containers are not climate or temperature controlled
  • Client must provide value, supporting documents and relevant customs information accordingly
  • Duties and taxes are the responsibility of the consignee
  • Any port storage fees are not included in quoted rate and will be presented to billing party
  • For all U.S. Imports an Importer of Record is required to complete a POA (Power of Attorney) during the import Customs clearance formalities.
Duties and Taxes
  • Unless otherwise noted all ARTA Quotes do not include any local duties and taxes
  • Duties and taxes are the responsibility of the consignee
  • Destination duties and taxes must be paid by the consignee upon arrival
  • For European shipments, Unless otherwise stated, all quotes assumes that the artwork(s) is in "Free Circulation".
  • For U.S. Imports only all shipments are subject to US Merchandise Processing Fee (0.3464% on declared value; min $26.22 / max $508.70)
  • For U.S. Imports only all shipments are subject to Customs Bond fee ($2 per $1,000 of declared value; min $25 / max $485)
  • For U.S. Imports only all shipments are subject to duties if applicable
  • For U.S. Imports via Sea Freight all shipments are subject to US customs harbour maintenance fee ( 0.125% of the shipment value; minimum $25.00)
  • For U.S. Imports via Sea Freight all shipments are subject to Terminal Handling charges (dependent on vessel, carrier, and port and cannot be estimated before shipment)
Warehouses
  • Handling fees may apply for receiving, releasing or inspection if required
  • All items cross-docked or stored temporarily will be kept in temperature controlled storage
  • Account names and receive or release authorization is required prior to arrival
Auction Houses
  • Sale and Lot numbers must be provided before or at booking
  • Release authorization will be required before collection can be scheduled
  • Sales tax charges must be confirmed and billed by the auction house
Art Fairs
  • Delivery and collection will occur during fair load in / out hours at the booth, unless otherwise specified
  • On site services must be booked in advance and subject to availability
  • Return quotes are a fixed rate for the original volume
